This historical spa town in one of the most beautiful parts of the Czech Republic lies in the wonderful Teplá valley, at the confluence of the Ohre and Teplá rivers. The picturesque old city with its luxurious and pompous spa buildings in gold, white and delicate pastel shades lies close to the course of the river. The city owes its prosperity to the 14 thermal springs, the healing powers of which were already known in the Middle Ages.

A number of famous figures of the past discovered the wisdom of this maxim and left traces all over the town: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Johann Sebastian Bach, Tsar Peter the Great, Friedrich Schiller, Karl Marx, Franz Liszt, Sigmund Freud, Theodor Fontane, Morgan Freeman, Madeleine Albright and Michael Douglas, to mention only a few.

Many had second homes in the town and the magnificent villas of famous people can still be admired today. Among others, Alexander von Humboldt built a sumptuous domicile here, on a slope directly adjoining the softly bubbling Teplá. His spacious, Classicist villa dates from 1872 and was completely gutted, renovated and turned into a luxurious 4-star hotel of the superior class - the Humboldt Park Hotel & Spa - while carefully preserving the historical charm of the building.

Karlsbad is situated only a few kilometres from the German/Czech border that is easy to reach by car. The airport offers direct flights to Prague, Moscow and St. Petersburg. On request, the hotel will provide an airport shuttle with a luggage service or an indoor parking place at the hotel.
